King Charles in “Battle” With Prince Andrew Over the Royal Lodge, Which Prince William Wants to Move Into

Today in royal feuds, there’s major tension between King Charles and his disgraced brother Prince Andrew over the massive Windsor home Andrew inhabits, known as the Royal Lodge. TL;DR: Andrew has lived in the home for years, but Charles wants him to GTFO now that he’s no longer a working royal. And to make matters more tense, Prince William and his family reportedly want to move in. Let’s get into the details.

According to Page Six, King Charles is “tired and furious” with all the recent family drama, especially now that Andrew has refused to move out of his $37 million home—despite his brother’s “demands.”

King Charles has offered to let Prince Andrew live in Frogmore Cottage (which Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been asked to vacate), but apparently he’s not having it. Which is complicated because Prince William and Kate Middleton have realized their newly acquired Adelaide Cottage is too small for them and now have their eye on the Royal Lodge.

“Andrew doesn’t want to leave because the property is seen as a symbol of senior royalty—an important property in the family’s portfolio,” a Page Six source said. “But William, who is the heir to the throne, has his eye on it.”

As royal commentator Joshua Rom explained, “The cottage they live in once belonged to people who worked for the royals—such as Group Captain Peter Townsend, who had a romance with Princess Margaret and who described it as an ‘icebox’—and is very cramped. It makes a lot more sense for William to have this house to reflect his new role, particularly as Andrew is no longer a ‘working royal’ and therefore doesn’t need an office or to entertain dignitaries.”

Sources say that all this drama has “infuriated” King Charles and that “relations between the King and his brother have never been this bad. It has turned into a real battle which he never expected and it’s left him tired and infuriated.”

Author Nigel Hawthorne said that Charles can deal with the situation by “cutting off his money even more,” noting that “Andrew has very little money of his own—which is partly why he depends on his rich businessmen friends to fund him. If he can’t afford the maintenance on a large place like Royal Lodge, he may begin to see that he will have no choice but to move.”

In conclusion: The royals remain messy.
