The stall first announced its forthcoming closure on its Facebook and Instagram pages on 31 Jan, stating that their operations will be “discontinued as of the moment”.

Labelled as a hiatus, the closure has been left somewhat open-ended with the possibility of an eventual return. In the same posts, KMSH beckoned its followers to keep an eye out for future announcements, so don’t lose hope just yet if you’re a loyal patron of the stall.

The story of KMSH is a rich one. Hailing from Kin Men Island, its original owner, Grandpa Koh, moved to Singapore when he was just 9 years old, in pursuit of a better life during World War II.

After years of dedicated labour, Grandpa Koh fulfilled his lifelong dream of creating his own braised duck recipe, starting his own business in 1976.  His legacy continues to live on to this day, as KMSH uses a recipe based on his very own.

Helmed by Grandpa Koh’s grandson, Jonathan, KMSH attained halal certification in Jun 2022 with the aim of being inclusive and maintaining close ties with their customers.

Located in the heart of the CBD, the stall constantly racks up queues during lunch hours with its fuss-free yet delicious menu.

Customers can tuck into their Braised Duck Meal (S$5) which comes in both dry and soup versions, consisting of braised duck with either rice or noodles of their choice, including kway teow, yellow noodles or a mix of both.

A Set Meal (S$6.50) with sides like braised egg, tofu puff and bean curd is available as well for those seeking a more wholesome meal.

While this hopefully isn’t the end of Grandpa Koh’s legacy, head down to Amoy Street Food Centre to have a final taste of KMSH’s delicious braised duck, at least for now.
