Kevin Tsai makes directorial debut with "Didi's Dream"

27 May - Taiwanese host-turned-movie director Kevin Tsai is finally releasing his directorial debut, "Didi's Dream", and is happy that he got to do it with his former "Kangxi Lai Le" co-host, Dee Hsu.

As reported on BJD, the TV personality, who cast Dee to play the lead shared that he had always wanted to cooperate with her in a movie, although it was for another script that he had written prior to the aforementioned movie.

"The [previous] story was tailored for Dee. It's about an alcoholic who has to stop drinking in order not to lose her sense of taste," he said, lightheartedly.

However, said Kevin, Dee was later involved in a cycling accident and broke some of her teeth.

"I was like, "Oh dear!" I want to shoot a movie, but my heroine can't laugh. It would be too strange to get a substitute to laugh for her. So I decided to halt production," he joked.

In "Didi's Dream", the story revolves around the relationship between two sisters - Dee's character, who is struggling in showbiz; and her top star sister, played by Lin Chi-ling.

"These are two women living in two different worlds. One sister is frustrated that the other is more successful, while the other is longing for the laid-back life the other leads. They complement each other, and take good care of each other. I intended the story to be this way," he said.

As to why he decided to cast Lin Chi-ling to play Dee's sister, Kevin said that it is due to their close friendship, and the fact that the two of them seemed to be the perfect opposite of each other.
