Keventers: Yummy milkshake joint comes to Bangalore

Last evening, I happened to chance up a cute little milkshake kiosk in Indiranagar, Bangalore. Keventers Milkshake serves some delightful shakes to the those with a sweet tooth. It was a warm and stuffy evening and while mulling over what to eat, my friends and I decided to sip on some cool shakes as we made up our minds on a place for dinner.

Keventers, it so happens, has a history in India which is quite interesting to note. In 1920, a Danish entrepreneur, Edward Keventers set up a dairy manufacturing plant in Delhi. Soon his popularity grew and by 1940 he had expanded to other cities in India. Following Independence, Ram Krishna Dalmia bought the Keventers dairy project from Keventers’s son. However, he retained the name. And today it has grown into a franchise, known for creating original milkshakes.

Keventers in Bangalore had a fare of around ten choices. The options ranged from classic shakes to fruity shakes to thick shakes. We ordered a Kitkat Shake, Cold Coffee and a Choco chip shake. The milkshakes were served in vintage milk bottles which gave a nostalgic feel when slurping the shake. To our surprise, the staff informed us that the bottles were for keeps. It is said that the details are in the tiny things — the caps on the bottles had sweet messages on them, the kind that would instantly bring a smile on the drinker’s face.

The KitKat shake was disappointing, I was expecting an overdose of KitKat, the drink, however, was milky with a faint flavor of KitKat. The Cold Coffee, on the other hand, was superb. It was the perfect amount of bitter coffee blended with cold milk. The Choco chip drink was fine, however, it would’ve tasted better with a little more of Choco chip.

Keventers, although loaded with modern equipment, has a very old-English feel to it. The kiosk is a makeshift drive-in since it is located on the road with ample parking. One can enjoy the shakes sitting in the car or standing on the pavement. The service was good and quick.
Overall, I felt the place was slightly overrated and can get a lot more creative with their milkshakes.
