Kelsea Ballerini Goes Full Barbie in Hot Pink Cowgirl Halloween Costume Inspired by Margot Robbie

The singer hosted a Halloween bash with The Original Donut Shop in New York City, where she opened up to PEOPLE about her relationship with boyfriend Chase Stokes and being 30

Kelsea Ballerini stepped out of Barbieland and into New York City Wednesday night as a host for the The Original Donut Shop's Halloween Party.

The “Heartfirst” singer, 30, rocked a hot pink cowgirl look inspired by Margot Robbie’s ensemble in the Barbie movie, which was a hit among the guests. To get into character she chirped “Hi, Barbie” as she walked into the room.

Made custom by costume designer Martin Zepeda, the whimsical getup featured a cropped vest and matching lace-up bell bottoms, which were both decked out in iridescent stars, plus a pink bandana tied around Ballerini's neck.

To commit to the outfit even further, Ballerini wore what appeared to be a long blonde wig curled into voluminous waves under a white cowboy hat. She topped the look with peachy-pink makeup.

Ballerini loves to dip into the pop culture archives for her Halloween costumes. In 2020, she dressed up as Legally Blonde's Elle Woods, bending and snapping in a pink plaid blazer dress and white high heels. She received the highest of compliments when Reese Witherspoon praised her efforts, writing, “Works every time honey!!” on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Later on in the night, the country artist was joined by her boyfriend, Outer Banks star Chase Stokes, who opted for a more laid-back hoodie-and-jeans combination paired with a blue jacket and white sneakers.

At the event, held at Beauty & Essex, Ballerini spoke with PEOPLE about her relationship with the actor, 31, noting that she “immediately felt safe with him from the second that he hopped out of the Bronco.”

She also opened up about stepping into the “new chapter” in her life that is her 30s, noting, “I just feel like I'm a woman now and just discovering what that feels like and writing about that with a level of specificity, has been a really fun thing to start dabbling into."

As she’s gotten older, she’s learned to appreciate all the good things flowing into her life as they happen. “I've had to really challenge myself to enjoy it and not just wonder what's next. I'm really glad that it's happening in the season of my life where I feel the most cracked open and soft.”
