"In a million years I would have never been able to predict that we'd be expecting our first baby within a month of our 20th wedding anniversary ... at 42," Bannen — who also hosts The Kelleigh Bannen Show and Today’s Country Radio on Apple Music Country — exclusively tells PEOPLE.

"Jeff and I went through a lot to get here, and it just makes us that much more thankful that we get to experience the gift of becoming parents. I wake up every morning counting down the weeks until we get to meet our baby girl. This whole season has felt so precious and hopeful."

"I Know Better Now" is a new song from Bannen's upcoming project and the follow up to her 2019 album Favorite Colors.

In 2019, Bannen told PEOPLE that it is important to her to showcase female perspectives through her music. “One thing that is really important to me is showing empowered female perspectives,” Bannen told PEOPLE of her song "Faith In You."

“Hopefully I do that in my writing and in my music, but when the director suggested the idea of the video featuring another empowered female story, I was really excited. I felt like it was a really amazing opportunity to expand what the song means — surviving and tenacity.”

She also discussed her relationship with her husband, saying that a big part of her album Favorite Colors was inspired by Grossman. “I’ve been married a really long time, and I think that there are a lot of evolutions of love throughout our lives,” Bannen said. “So that’s definitely a big part of the story that I’m telling."

"‘Favorite Colors,’ which is the song that the album is named after, is really about knowing everything about someone except why it didn’t work. I spent a lot of time reflecting on that because marriage is beautiful and hard and complicated. I also love telling the stories of my college days — those early love relationships are really some of my favorite stories to tell and retell.”

“He’s an amazing encourager to me and not particularly passionate about music so he’s heard bits and pieces,” she said of her husband. “I’m always listening to mixes in the car so he has definitely heard everything, but we haven’t sat down and listened start to finish. His favorite song on the album is probably ‘Favorite Colors’ because even though it’s about love ending, he loves that song. He also loves the co-writer on that song so I feel like he’s rooting for both of us.”
