Sarah Lancashire to star alongside Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw in new Netflix series
Sarah Lancashire and Ben Whishaw are the latest multi award winning actors to join the cast of upcoming spy thriller series, Black Doves, from Netflix.
They will be starring alongside Keira Knightley, who was previously announced as taking on the lead role.
Written by Joe Barton, Black Doves will be a sharp, action-filled and heartfelt story of friendship and sacrifice, set against the backdrop of London at Christmas.
Keira will play Helen Webb, a quick-witted, down to earth, dedicated wife and mother — and professional spy.
For 10 years, Helen has been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the shadowy organisation she works for: the Black Doves.
When her secret lover Jason is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (played by Happy Valley star, Sarah Lancashire) calls in Helen’s old friend to keep her safe.
Enter: Sam Young (played by This is Going to Hurt and A Very British Scandal's Ben Whishaw).
Sam is a suave, Champagne-drinking assassin. But having been out of the game since a failed job with disastrous consequences, he’s come home to a London that has moved on without him.
As his past threatens to catch up with him, his task is to protect Helen as she investigates who killed Jason and why. Together, they set off on a mission that will lead them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy, which links the murky underworld of London to a looming geopolitical crisis.
The logline for the series reads: “Black Doves is the story of two old friends coming back together, finding trust in one another in a world where trust can get you killed and, ultimately, changing the course of each other’s lives forever.”
The announcement of Sarah and Ben's roles in Black Doves comes as the filming commences for the spy thriller series.
There is currently no release date for Black Doves.
