Kearen Pang's "29+1" wins its first international award

3 Mar - Actress-writer Kearen Pang's new movie has recently been honoured with the Bill Muller Excellence in Screenwriting Award by the Sedona International Film Festival.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the filmmaker, who adapted her 2005 one-woman stage show, "29+1" to the silver screen, recently expressed her delight at the film being acknowledged by the festival's Directors' Choice Awards.

She shared that it has been 12 years since the project was started, but it has never won any awards until now.

"The recent award is telling me that the story actually has its magic. Even though the audiences were more mature, they actually liked it. I even saw an older woman who sat in the last row who cried while watching it. It really moved me."

In an Instagram post she published on 28 February, Kearen said that she is flattered to be winning the award although it was the first time "29+1" joined an international film festival.

"29+1" tells the story of two women, Christy and Joyce, whose life reached a crossroad as they approached the big 3-0. The movie stars Chrissie Chau, Joyce Cheng, and Babyjohn Choi.
