Kawaii 'watermelon dress' trend slices its way through Japan
As summer heats up in Japan, people look forward to seasonal icons like the natsu matsuri (summer festival), hanabi (fireworks) and sunflower fields. Besides these, another icon of the summer period is none other than a cold, refreshing and juicy watermelon.
There are various ways to enjoy a watermelon, but we gotta give it to the Japanese for adding a cute side to this big, round fruit: “Wearing” a slice of watermelon in the shape of a dress!
This trend is so hot that even top Japanese female idol group AKB48’s Sakura Miyawaki tried it on for size.
