Karlie Kloss just got real about body image in the modeling industry. During her recent sit-down at the Cannes Lions festival, the 24-year-old model opened up about a troubling personal experience with body standards while on the job.

"I was called both too fat and too thin by a casting agent on the same day," she told Joanna Coles during an onstage interview. Kloss added that she wishes designers would accommodate for a "wider variety" of female body types, Page Six reports.

Kloss isn't the only model who's struggled with fashion's skewed body standards. Danish model Ulrikke Hoyer - who has a 24-inch waist - was reportedly recently fired from a Louis Vuitton gig for being "too big." Last year, it was alleged that Gigi Hadid was covered up for her first Tommy Hilfiger runway because one casting director said she was "not quite as thin" as the other models.

Often, the pressure to adhere to these body types affects models' psyches. Former Victoria's Secret Angel Erin Heatherton revealed she became depressed. "I got to a point where one night I got home from a workout and I remember staring at my food and thinking maybe I should just not eat," she said. Fellow runway star Cara Delevingne even took a break from modeling because it "just made me feel a bit hollow after a while," she explained.

Kloss, who's now on her second year of helming her coding camp Kode with Klossy, emphasizes the importance of being "human" and putting her own happiness first. She told Cosmopolitan.com in 2014:

"I don't think people realize half of the things that we [models] do [or eat]. We are humans, we are normal - I live my life, I have a wonderful, happy, healthy life. I indulge! But I also work hard. I work out and I train and I'm very active and always healthy, but, you know ... I have a sweet tooth. It's about balance, because that's the only way to [keep your routine] sustainable. I don't diet; I'm not a fan of diets or fasts. I just do my best to stay healthy."

At Cannes earlier today, she summed it up quite well: "I don't want to please anyone by myself."

Should we lady and the tramp this? 🍝
