SINGAPORE — Karen Mok loves her pandan cake – so much so it’s the first thing that she looks forward to eating whenever she comes to Singapore, even on her strict diet during her world tour.

“Pandan cake. I have to have at least one bite of pandan cake while I’m here, even though I’m not supposed to eat sweet foods when I’m touring,” the Hong Kong singer-actress revealed at a press conference in Singapore on Monday (27 May) at the Capitol Kempinski Hotel.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore later, Mok said she is also fond of one other green food item: durians. “I associate durians more with Malaysia...I love durians!” But she rates Singapore’s chicken rice above durians.

Mok was in town to attend the Global Chinese Golden Chart Awards on Tuesday, as well as to promote her upcoming concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 15 June.

Her concert in Singapore will be the first stop on her world tour outside of China, and she will also be touring Sydney, London and Paris. The tour, titled the Ultimate Karen Mok Show, kicked off in Shanghai last year and is meant to celebrate her 25th year in showbiz although she will enter her 26th year in 2019.

The veteran entertainer, who turns 49 years old this Sunday (2 June), still looks amazing for her age.

With a desire to tackle new challenges at this stage of her career, Mok dropped a bombshell announcement at the conference. “This tour will be the last time I perform on a major pop concert tour,” she said in Mandarin. “You will see me do things that you have never and will never see again.”

However, she will still carry on performing and singing. Mok lets on that her next big project will be to produce and possibly act in a musical with a Chinese flavour. “London has their West End, and New York has Broadway. I think Chinese audiences are ready for their own version of Broadway,” she said, adding that she loves musicals such as Les Misérables and Mamma Mia.

Mok is no stranger to starring in musicals, as she played the lead role of Mimi in the Asian tour of the Broadway hit Rent, which was staged in Singapore in 2005.

After Mok ends her current tour, she said she will take a one-year break to spend more time with her husband, Johannes Natterer.

So grab her concert tickets if you’re a fan, because, as the singer said, you may not ever get the chance again! Tickets cost from $108 to $228 and are available at the Singapore Indoor Stadium box office, all SingPost outlets, and SportsHubTix.
