Julia Roberts Sells Hawaiian Home for $16.2M, After Slashing Price by Nearly Half
What a steal for some multimillionaire. Julia Roberts finally unloaded her home in Hawaii for $16.2 million, about half of the original asking price.
The Oscar-winning actress put her beachfront abode in Kauai on the market for $29.85 million last spring. When she didn’t get any takers, Roberts dropped the asking price in February and then again in October, to $19.5 million. The two-acre property is in the stunning and secluded area of Hanalei Bay and boasts about about 200 feet of beachfront and mountain views. It is named the Faye Residence, after a former owner who was a prominent sugar plantation manager. Roberts, 49, purchased the property in 2011 for $13.375 million, according to property records.
The home was built in 1917 and has kept its original charm. The red five-bedroom main house is nearly 3,800 square feet and has a covered patio overlooking the stunning scenery. There is also a smaller two-bedroom guest residence on the property.
According to listing agent Neal Norman of Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers, Roberts and her husband, Danny Moder, decided to sell because they “are just not using the property as much as they have in the past.” Normal also told the Wall Street Journal that high-end properties are often slow to sell on Kauai because of the lack of nightlife. Although he won’t disclose the buyers, he added that they got the house at “a very good value.”
Roberts and her family have put down more roots back on the mainland. Earlier this year, the mother of three purchased a home in Malibu off-market for $6.84 million. The ranch style house sits directly across the street from her longtime residence. Moder and Roberts also own a ranch in New Mexico, which is where Julia has said she feels “the most herself.”
