"Journey of Flower" director pleads fans to watch the film

26 Jan - Actor-turned-director Charlie Zhang recently made a plea for fans to give a chance to his directorial effort, the big screen adaptation of "The Journey of Flower".

As reported on Oriental Daily, the plea comes after the film, which took four years to make, did not do well at the box office since its release on 20 January, having made only RMB 5.26 million in five days of screening.

Admitting that the dismal number surprised him, Zhang said that he felt guilty towards the producer.

"I felt like I have betrayed the producer's trust. At the same time, I feel sorry for the team. I felt that we have worked hard for more than four years but our efforts went unrewarded," he said.

Zhang also couldn't help but shed a tear as he revealed that they had faced many challenges in trying to bring the movie to life, as it had to resume production after the pandemic in 2020.

"I sincerely hope that everyone can go to the cinemas to support our film," he added.

Starring Chen Duling and Toby Lee, the movie is based on the novel of the same name written by Fresh Guoguo. Its 2015 TV adaptation was a big hit, starring Zanilia Zhao and Wallace Huo.
