Join Frank Gehry and Others for the 92nd Street Y’s Annual Cities Summit
This past pandemic year has fundamentally changed our relationship with cities, arguably more than any year before it. And despite cries of cities being “over,” our urban environments have evolved in some ways for the better: We have been able to envision a pedestrian-oriented future and have recalibrated our relationships with commuting and—of course—life in the office.
But the future of our metropolises is still far from certain, and a conference at New York City’s 92nd Street Y aims to unpack the possibilities afoot. On October 20, the cultural center will present the Cities Summit, a day of virtual panels, lectures, and discussions aimed at exploring America’s urban centers through the lenses of architecture, planning, policy, culture, and more (ELLE DECOR is a media sponsor).
Attendees can sit in on panel discussions focused on climate change, featuring, among others, the celebrated Nigerian architect Kunlé Adeyemi; a lecture by Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles on the challenges confronting megacities; and a conversation between ELLE DECOR editor in chief Asad Syrkett and Yale School of Architecture dean Deborah Berke about what we can learn from university campuses and improvised architecture about the cities of the future.
The day will be capped off by a special Q&A between the New Yorker’s Alex Ross and the Pritzker Prize–winning architect Frank Gehry, who will reflect on his past work as well as the next chapter of built environments.
