He might be known as a bit of a celebrity bachelor (especially after George Clooney officially went off the market) but John Mayer thinks he’d make a horrible “bachelor” if ABC ever asked. Obviously The Bachelor is quite the success, but in Mayer’s eyes, his participation might tank the series.

The question was actually asked by Ellen DeGeneres, who’s never afraid to bring up the big questions with her guests. (We mean, you did see that interview with JLo, right?)

In the eyes of DeGeneres, Mayer would be absolutely perfect as the star of an all-new season. Maybe she’s not really digging Nick Viall this year, or maybe she’s just really anxious for Mayer to settle down with someone nice. Aren’t we all?

We love the fact that Mayer and DeGeneres started out that clip by trying to make plans. DeGeneres really missed his music, and Mayer really missed DeGeneres. Aww.

The conversation got started because Mayer admitted he’s a big fan of The Bachelor. But as for his involvement, it’ll solely be as a viewer — when he’s got the time.

“I watched the first couple, but… I love the show, but it’s too much time to ask of me. Two hours is a lot of buy-in time,” Mayer said.

But, it’s not really the time commitment that would cause Mayer to lose interest — it’s the contestants.

“I think it would be really fun to be the bachelor,” he said, before admitting that he’d never truly consider the opportunity. “I don’t think that I would find love there. Unless they would change the vetting process on who would be the contestants.”

Now we’re curious. What kind of contestant is John Mayer actually looking for? Hmm.

We don’t agree with Mayer’s feelings that it’d be “one of the lowest rated shows,” but we do think it’s pretty funny that he’s already put so much thought into this.

All in all, we love the fact that Mayer is, at the very least, a fan of the franchise. It’s just a shame that he won’t use the show to his advantage in order to find love — surely the network would totally be interested in a celebrity season.
