Joe Tay feels helpless over situation at the PolyU
19 Nov– Despite his attempt to help, former TVB actor Joe Tay admitted that there is nothing that he can do about the siege happening at the Polytechnic University.
As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who went on social media to share his experience of escaping a tear gas attack, stated that he felt helpless for not being able to do anything about the situation surrounding the people trapped inside the university.
"However, I won't give up in trying to do all I can within my power. Only then, I would not waste this life," he added.
Speaking to the media, Joe said that he was told by other more experienced people at the site that it was not safe for him to be there, and that a tear gas was launched not several seconds after he left.
"What I can do now is just observe and bear witness to some of it," he added.
The actor also revealed that he saw a woman crying in concern over her children being inside the Polytechnic University, but that it only made everything feel even more helpless.
"What can we do? We can only bear witness, share it with people and hope more international organisations can intervene and provide humanitarian effort. But Hong Kong doesn't even permit its own medical personnel to enter, so how could Red Cross, World Vision, Save The Children, Doctors Without Borders and others get involved? Shouldn't this be a crime?" he added.
