J.K. Simmons to Play Commissioner Gordon in ‘Justice League’
J.K. Simmons is on board to play Commissioner Gordon in Warner Bros. and D.C.’s “Justice League,” sources confirmed to Variety.
Simmons takes on the character most recently played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy.
Warner Bros. had no comment.
Filming on “Justice League,” which opens Nov. 17, 2017, begins next month, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot on board to reprise their roles of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, respectively. Ezra Miller is also set to play the Flash with Jason Momoa playing Aquaman.
Zack Snyder is in the director’s chair.
Commissioner Gordon was the last major role to be cast before production on “Justice League” began, with most of the cast making cameos in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which bows on March 25. Amber Heard had recently been tapped to play Mera, Aquaman’s love interest, who will have a small cameo in “Justice League” before appearing in the “Aquaman” pic.
This isn’t Simmons first dip in the comic book universe, having played Jonah Jameson in the Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” pics.
Simmons can next be seen in “La La Land” opposite Ryan Gosling. The musical reunites Simmons with director Damien Chazelle of “Whiplash,” which landed Simmons the supporting actor Oscar in 2015.
He also co-stars in the upcoming thriller “The Accountant,” starring Ben Affleck.
