Jimmy Wang Yu passed away at 80
6 Apr – Taiwanese martial arts actor Jimmy Wang Yu has recently passed away.
The news was shared by the actor's eldest daughter and singer Linda Wong on 5 April, writing, "It is with great sadness that our beloved father, Mr. Wang Yu, passed away peacefully at the Taipei Cheng Hsin Hospital on the morning of April 5th at the age of 80 after six years of fighting the disease."
"My father was loyal to people and valued his friends. Inside and outside the screen, he was upright and chivalrous, and had a brilliant life. With great remorse, we will always miss our father. I also believe that his one-armed swordsman character - a handsome hero image - will forever live in the history of the film and the hearts of fans," she added.
It is noted that Jimmy had been under the care of his daughter Carol after suffering his second stroke in 2016 that came five years after the first one.
Making his acting debut in 1963, Jimmy was most known for his character in the 1967 movie, "One-Armed Swordsman". He went on to make more than 70 movies, including Peter Chan's "Wu Xia" and the 2013 film, "Soul", which enabled him to win Best Actor at the Taipei Film Awards in 2013.
He was 80.
