Jimmy Fallon Tried to Sing a Kelly Clarkson Song A Cappella and It's Horribly Delightful
Every time The Voice queen Kelly Clarkson belts out a tune, we are reminded why she became a superstar after winning American Idol nearly two decades ago. While her new music deserves to be played on repeat, the 36-year-old's hits from her early career will never get tired. We've listened to her 2004 chart-topper "Since U Been Gone" a million times, but we're hearing it in a whole new way-literally-after the singer's recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
On Monday's episode, host Jimmy Fallon and an unexpected assortment of celebrities tried their best to sing the well-known track for a hilarious video segment called "Turn It Up." The clip features Jimmy, along with Shaquille O'Neal, John Oliver, Rachel Brosnahan, Mumford & Sons, Meghan Trainor, Anthony Anderson, The Roots, and of course, Kelly herself. Each of the guest stars were given noise-canceling headphones so they couldn't hear themselves sing. In most cases, this was probably for the best.
Kelly sounds like an angel, obviously.
Shaq sings as well as we'd imagine Kelly plays basketball. Still, he was our favorite "singer" in the entire clip.
Oh, Jimmy. He tried. He really did.
Meghan helped carry the group, being that she actually has a background in music.
And Rachel *really* hit those high notes, but the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star should probably stick to stand-up.
If you've never made faces like John, you're not singing loud enough in the shower.
As delightful as that video was, we're going to go listen to Kelly's incredible cover from The Greatest Showman to cleanse our eardrums.
