First Lady Jill Biden attended the White House State Dinner for Kenya wearing a cobalt blue gown designed by Sergio Hudson, paired with shimmering, silver heels.

Alongside President Joe Biden, who wore a classic black tuxedo, the first lady welcomed Kenyan President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto to the White House on the evening of May 23. Notably, this gathering marks the first time since 2008 that an American president has hosted an African leader for an official state visit.

Jill Biden’s strapless, floor-length sapphire gown was adorned with beads and sequins. The glittering dress also featured a satin sash across the bodice that extended into elbow-length sleeves, with her sparkling silver pumps aligned complementing the patriotic theme. To complete the ensemble, the first lady chose a gemstone necklace and dangling earrings that matched the deep blue of her dress.

Jill Biden recently wore an intricately beaded Oscar de la Renta gown for a State dinner in April and paired the dress with the same shimmering silver stilettos. She is a noted fan of pumps, having slipped on a pair of pointed, tan heels at Human Rights Campaign’s National Dinner in October of last year. She also dazzled in lime green slingback heels for a 2024 Cinco de Mayo reception. While pumps have become known as her signature shoe, she is known to switch up her footwear — earlier this spring season, she wore brown suede boots at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

With an impressive guest list including politicians and Hollywood celebrities, the State Dinner for Kenya showcased a variety of elegant evening wear. Vice President Kamala Harris wore black heels paired with a monochrome green gown and a matching shawl, contributing to the sophisticated and stately looks seen in Washington, D.C., last night.
