Jia Zhangke plans for his "Journey to the West" film

25 Oct - Although there are already numerous versions of "Journey to the West", plus the historical adventure "Xuanzang" that was just released a few months ago, Jia Zhangke thinks that it is a good idea to make another movie about it.

As reported on Yibada, the Chinese filmmaker shared his idea recently, saying that he is inspired to make a different kind of "Journey to the West", where the west in this project refers to India and that the journey would be from the Tang Dynasty into India and Central Asia.

"Maybe we can collaborate with India, since the story is connected with the country," said Jia, who plans to produce the movie under his Fabula Entertainment banner.

Another idea is to include Xuanzang's visit to a country where it is populated only by women, which is actually similar to Cheang Pou Soi's upcoming third instalment of "The Monkey King" franchise.

But aside from the supposedly new take on the countless retelling, Jia is also set to direct a feature length film about teenage romance and another project, a martial arts film in cooperation with Media Asia.
