Jess Sum angered by rumours of romance with rich man
16 Jan - TVB actress Jess Sum has taken to social media to express her anger towards tabloids for accusing her of being a materialistic woman.
As reported on Mingpao News, tabloids previously published photos of Jess with a man, who was later identified as Calvin, the heir to his family's shopping empire.
In the article that followed, the writer claimed that Calvin splurged for the actress and described the relationship as Jess opting "out of poverty".
Angered by the accusation, Jess recently shared the said article online and wrote, "In the past, I would choose to keep silent and respond with a smile. But each and every person has a bottom line. Although I work in showbiz, and am not from a wealthy family, I have been working hard to take care of my family and myself. I am self-reliant. [...] So please stop insulting my character."
Jess added that people need to understand that artistes are people too, that they have dignity and respect.
In another post, she said, "A person's fate after birth is beyond their control. But you can definitely rely on your own effort to get your own piece of heaven. No matter how humble a person's background can be, it does not mean other people are free to attack and humiliate her."
