While 2024 might be the year of 'method dressing', with stars from Zendaya to Anya Taylor-Joy embodying their big-screen protagonists on the red carpet, some of Hollywood’s best dressed are sticking to a more tried-and-true formula.

Jennifer Aniston is one such red-carpet regular that has honed her own style over the years – and is sticking firmly to it. Last night, the star attended an event promoting The Morning Show in LA wearing Reformation’s Kourtney dress: a perennially popular piece that’s part of the brand’s seasonless, permanent rotation.

The actress styled the tonal-red floral midi in her signature minimalist way, simply adding a pair of matching point-toe sandals and discreet jewellery.

If the dress appears familiar, that might be because Aniston has worn it before, in a different colourway. Back in April, the star posted a photo of her in Reformation's beloved waist-hugging silhouette in a chic navy and blue print.

While Aniston’s formulaic approach to dressing might be at odds with the camera-attracting tactics of the new school of red-carpet stars, it does sum up why she has remained a style icon for so many years. Clearly, Aniston has her personal style perfectly honed: she knows what works for her, and sticks strictly to it, instead of contorting her image to fit the current zeitgeist.

We can all learn a thing or two from Aniston’s timeless style; and while I'm not suggesting we all collectively shun the joy of newness forever (nothing raises pulses quite like a brand-new designer bag investment or a sparkling pair of shoes), building a wardrobe of core, seasonless classics really pays dividends. As Jen knows, once you find a silhouette you really love, it’s a smart idea to invest in multiple colourways.

I’ve personally taken a leaf out of Aniston’s book, buying up Arket’s satisfyingly hefty Heavyweight T-shirt in every single colour. Trust me: it’ll form the backbone of endless everyday looks, and even looks smart enough to work after-hours, too. I’ve also invested in several pairs of Cos’ Tailored Wool Trousers, which are just weighty enough to hang beautifully and cut to a satisfying wide-leg silhouette.

And most recent discovery: the perfect silk slip dress. I’ve been hunting for one that flows beautifully without falling too low or too long for years, and Silk Laundry has nailed it. The brand’s aptly named '90s Slip Dress is the kind of piece you’ll be calling on for years to come, either worn true to its original decade with a thong sandal and sunglasses, or layered up with knitwear and boots. After falling in love with my classic black piece, I’m adding its white counterpart to my bag this season (and perhaps, the fun neon pink too).
