Jay Hernandez Wants To Return For A Suicide Squad Sequel

‘Suicide Squad’ star Jay Hernandez wants to come back for a sequel.

During an interview with comicbook.com the 38-year-old ‘Suicide Squad’ star revealed that he would love to return to the role of El Diablo if they made a sequel.

“Of course there is [a chance I could return],” he said. “I’m not saying anything, just that it’s a possibility,” he reportedly added with a smile.

But why is that so important?

‘Suicide Squad’ fans will already know that Jay Hernandez plays El Diablo – a convict with the ability to create and manipulate fire at will.

But his fate was seemingly sealed at the end of the movie.

Tackling one of the film’s main villains, El Diablo goes head-to-head with Incubus – the brother of The Enchantress and all round evil dude. But in the ensuing battle, El Diablo chooses to sacrifice himself in order to save the world… pinning Incubus into the corner of the room while Navy Seals set off explosives which presumably kill them both.

It’s a bittersweet moment to say the least – wracked with guilt over his past misdeeds, El Diablo is the character who’s clearly the most remorseful about everything he’s done. And his act of sacrifice is a poignant moment in an otherwise wacky movie.

But could that all be undone?

“It was interesting, because there were some changes that happened later on,” explained Hernandez. “I didn’t know that’s how the end was going to happen, early on. For me, it was important to make it good, make it impressive, and go out in a blaze of glory. Ultimately, I think it worked to give it some meaning, some emotional weight to the end of the story.”

Of course, El Diablo was a master of flames… and that could mean he was able to survive the explosion. But does that mean we’ll see him again?

And will ‘Suicide Squad’ really get a sequel?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Suicide Squad’ is in cinemas now across the UK.
