Jay Chou no longer makes songs for his own interest

27 Jul - Jay Chou used to write songs of various subjects, from urbanisation to abuse, from pollution to wars.

But now for the new album, "Bedtime Stories", the singer-composer has decided to tone it down a bit, and that is thanks to daughter, Hathaway.

Speaking to the media at the launch of his new album in Beijing recently, according to ECNS News, Jay stated, "My daughter inspires me to do this album. I like putting her to sleep by playing my songs for her. It works even better than reading her a bedtime story."

Nonetheless, while he rarely writes about heavy issues now, Jay's new album is still upbeat and possesses the dark humour he and lyricist Vincent Fang are known for.

He is also changing his views about his music. If he used to write songs that he wants to hear and to express himself in the past, Jay said that he now writes songs for his fans.

"When I listen to them singing my love ballads at concerts, I am touched," he said.
