A new Japanese Spa called Amani Spa, located on Killiney Road, Singapore is aiming to be a modern oasis in town for city dwellers suffering from urban fatigue, who are in need of relaxation and wellness benefits. Borrowing its name from the organic Amani oil, a rich and nutritious oil extracted from flaxseed, the new spa brings together a range of massage treatments, wellness services, and targeted facials delivered across treatment rooms and holistic wellness halls for unique experiences of tranquility and relaxation.

I checked myself in one afternoon for their signature Amani Signature Treatment with a 30-minute Ganban-yoku Hot Stone Therapy thrown in and a 30-minute Oxygen Capsule treatment. To be safe, I blocked off my calendar to give myself three undisturbed hours to enjoy my treatments. Sorry, I can't come to the phone right now....

How the treatment begins

I met with their in-house manager who ran the treatment process with me. Then I was ushered to my treatment room, where I changed out to their cute Japanese printed bathrobe.

To begin, I was ushered to a heated room where I'd experience the Ganban-yoku Hot Stone Therapy. Basically, the flooring of an extended platform and the walls are made from a special volcanic stone. The whole room is fully heated and while I'm laying on the platform with just a piece of towel, I started perspiring furiously within a few minutes. The heat was pretty intense, and I found myself shuffling in my position, unable to lie or sit still. The skin-to-stone contact was very, very hot and I was pacing in the room, waiting for the time to end!

The therapy is said to balance the body with ultra-red raysand negative ions from the hot stones to heal, soothe and stimulate one’s metabolism. The heat helps to increase blood circulation while reducing joint pains and removing toxins from one's body.

I felt 'light' and clean after the 30-minute therapy, especially after a quick rinse to remove the excess sweat from my skin before my massage treatment.

Next, I started with the Amani Signature Treatment which lasted about an hour. The masseuse made sure she targeted knots in my lower back and legs, a sign that I'd been sitting in front of my computer for way too long. Using the Amani oil, the masseuse applied enough pressure to rub onto key muscles and improve blood circulation. Suitable for couples, the treatment can be held concurrently in a spacious room for two.

The Oxygen Capsule treatment

Lastly, I was due for the Oxygen Capsule treatment. Because it is quite a popular treatment, I had to wait for a client's turn to be over before mine. Wearing the same robe I was in earlier before, I slip into a 'shuttle-like' ship to lie back in a pressurised oxygen environment. The treatment is said to deliver oxygen molecules to body areas that lack oxygen, rejuvenating the body for better sleep, and encouraging better recovery from fatigue, injury, and muscle aches. The cool burst of oxygen was a delight, but it gets really cold inside the machine. Furthermore, when the machine is shut from the outside, you cannot open it from the inside, which only further causes anxiety if you're one to suffer from claustrophobia. Good thing the machine has an emergency button should you need to step out mid-way.

What I thought of the treatments

That night, I felt like I had a good night's sleep and I figured the day's treatment did help to put my mind and body in a good mental space. I'd definitely recommend treatments at this spa as they are unique, focus on internal wellness and work as a good destress mechanism. Go with friends and loved ones and let us know what you think!
