Jan Kounen explores the darker sides of Silicon Valley for Blackpills
The Netherlands-born French director is currently filming "The Show," a series that will air January 2018 on the recently launched platform specializing in short series for viewing on mobile devices. Expect sex, drugs and algorithms in the eight episodes based in a Silicon Valley tech firm.
Filming until August 12 in the Paris region, "The Show" features two young Silicon Valley whiz kids who infiltrate the world's biggest tech firm in the aim of sabotaging it from the inside.
The eight short-format episodes are based on "The Show," the debut book by Filip Syta, a Swedish former Google employee. Like "The Circle" by Dave Eggers -- the big screen adaptation of which landed in April, starring Emma Watson, Tom Hanks and John Boyega -- the book explores the dangerous evolution of the tech world as seen through the eyes of a young Harvard graduate. In Silicon Valley, Vic thought he had found success, happiness and money, but he instead discovers a world of sex, drugs and fraud.
Jan Kounen directed movies such as "Doberman," "Blueberry," starring Vincent Cassel, as well as the 2007 film "99 Francs," based on the book by Frédéric Beigbeder and starring Jean Dujardin.
The director joins the growing list of personalities working with Blackpills, the recently launched platform specializing in short series designed for viewing on mobile devices. Fictional series from Luc Besson ("Playground"), Louis Leterrier ("Tycoon"), James Franco (Season 3 of "Making a Scene") and Zoe Cassavetes ("Junior") have featured on the platform since it launched in May. Bryan Singer, Kev Adams and James Franco also have projects in the pipeline.
