Jamie Foxx’s ‘Sleepless’ Cruises To MLK Weekend; ‘Before I Fall’ Lands In March

Open Road has announced two release-date changes. Its Jamie Foxx Las Vegas cop movie Sleepless will debut January 13 during MLK weekend, and teen drama Before I Fall now will open on March 3.

Open Road originally had Sleepless dated for February 24, but given the number of African-American moviegoers who head to the theater during the holiday weekend — previous year holiday highs have been the Ride Along pics and Selma — Sleepless looks to have a better launch on its new date against Paramount’s pricey family pic Monster Trucks and STX’s horror film The Bye Bye Man.

Before I Fall is based on Lauren Oliver’s novel and follows Samantha Kingston, a young woman who seems to have it all with looks and the ideal boyfriend. But one day in February turns out to be her last. Stuck reliving her last day during one inexplicable week, Sam untangles the mystery surrounding her death — and discovers the true value of everything she is in danger of losing. Originally, Before I Fall was scheduled to open on April 7. On March 3, it’s booked against Fox’s Wolverine movie Logan and Lionsgate’s drama The Shack starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer.
