James Whitner to Open The Collective on Tuckaseegee: Photos

Uplifting the Black community has been at the center of The Whitaker Group’s mission, which will continue with a new development in North Carolina.

This summer, The Whitaker Group — the James Whitner-founded parent company of retailers A Ma Maniére, Social Status, APB and Prosper — will open The Collective on Tuckaseegee in Charlotte, spanning 13,000 square feet with 10 retail units.

The development will include both emerging local businesses as well as a new APB store, dubbed APB Charlotte. What’s more, The Whitaker Group will introduce a skate park within the development. The Whitaker Group touted the skate park as the first “privately held, Black-owned, publicly accessible non-DIY skate park in the United States.”

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) purchasing managers' index (PMI), at 49.5 in June, was unchanged from May, below the 50-mark separating growth from contraction and in line with a median forecast of 49.5 in a Reuters poll. "Actual industrial activity should be stronger than the data suggests as our observation is that the official PMI fails to fully capture the current export momentum, which has been the major economic driver this year," said Xu Tianchen, senior economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit.
