James Wan is working on a secret movie before "Aquaman 2"

James Wan has a secret project to work on before returning for "Aquaman 2".

1 Aug – James Wan is returning to his horror roots. He's never left the horror universe, per se, he's just been more involved as producer than director lately. However, his next project will remedy that.

The Malaysian-Australian horror auteur returns to the director's seat in his next movie, which he will work on before starting work on "Aquaman 2", according to Variety.

When Cinemablend previously reported similar news back in June, many take it to mean the horror-infused spinoff of "Aquaman", called "The Trench". Even though at the time, Wan did say it will not be a DC movie.

This latest news seems to confirm that it will indeed be a completely new horror movie unrelated to "Aquaman" as it will be another collaboration between Wan and New Line Cinema, the home of his "The Conjuring" movies and spinoffs, as well as for whom Wan is producing the "Mortal Kombat" reboot.

As Wan is keeping mum on his new horror project, fans are really hoping he is working on an original and not another sequel to one of the movies in his "Conjuring" universe (not that this wouldn't be welcomed by horror movie enthusiasts, all the same).

The story for the movie is conjured up by Wan and his fiancée, Ingrid Bisu. It has yet to be decided who is penning the script, though it is known Wan will produce under his Atomic Monster banner alongside Michael Clear.

Production on the secret horror movie is set to begin in Los Angeles this fall, which will give Wan ample time to begin his "Aquaman 2" pre-production in 2020.
