James Spader Sells Off-Market Hancock Park Home (EXCLUSIVE)

Multiple sources snitched, and property records do indeed confirm, that gloriously eccentric actor James Spader (Rolling Stone once called him “the strangest man on TV”) has sold his home in the historic and affluent Windsor Square neighborhood, west of Downtown Los Angeles, in an off-market deal for $4 million.

The three-time Emmy winner — who appeared in last year’s box office blockbuster “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and holds down the lead role on the crime/drama series “The Blacklist” — purchased the 1920s Mediterranean Revival-style residence in August 2004 for a bit less than $2.25 million. The nearly 3,700-square-foot house, with four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, sits amid a thick grove of towering palm trees on a flat, mid-block parcel of nearly one-third of an acre. According to online marketing materials, the “recrafted” residence includes “vintage-inspired restored baths” and a “restaurant-equipped” eat-in kitchen with soapstone countertops.

Set into a carved-stone arch, the front door opens to a classic center-hall foyer that leads to formal living and dining rooms, a mahogany-paneled library, and a media room. The backyard, meanwhile, has tropical gardens, an “elevated glass tiled” swimming pool, and a guest house.

Boston-born, Andover-bred and educated at elite East Coast private schools, Spader maintains a solid real estate foothold in Massachusetts where he owns two neighboring waterfront properties on Sippican Harbor in the sleepy maritime village of Marion that together encompass not quite eight acres. One of the parcels has been in the Spader family since at least 1990 — it previously belonged to his late mother — and the other, which includes a small island just off the shore, was scooped in the latter days of 2015 for a little bit less than $1.2 million. Spader and his long-time girlfriend, model/actress turned erotic sculptor Leslie Stefanson, also maintain homes in London and New York City’s Greenwich Village.
