James McAvoy's 'Extinction' gets director

James McAvoy's upcoming sci-fi thriller has now got a director, in the form of "Hounds of Love" helmer Ben Young reports Deadline.

"Extinction" will tell the story of a man who is haunted by nightmares in which his wife is assaulted, and who becomes a hero when Earth is invaded by a dangerous army.

McAvoy is in talks to star in the film as a father and factory mechanic who realizes those invading might not be what he expected.

Although a much bigger project for Young, the filmmaker has already enjoyed success with his abduction thriller "Hounds of Love" at the Venice Film Festival, and has since been compared to names such as David Lynch and Justin Kurzel.
