After months of waiting, we finally know that the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s crime novels, written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, are coming to HBO and we couldn’t be more excited.

News that Rowling’s more adult novels were set to be adapted for TV broke last year. Since then, limited information about the adaptations, which are being produced by the BBC, has been released.

Now, as Deadline reports, HBO plans to pick up the show and OMG!

The partnership between the BBC and HBO marks the second time the two TV giants have joined forces after HBO picked up the BBC’s mini-series adaptation of Rowling’s first foray into adult fiction, The Casual Vacancy.

While limited information is known about the upcoming TV adaptation of Rowling’s adult crime novels, which follow the adventures and cases of Cormoran Strike, a private detective and war veteran living in London, earlier this summer it was revealed that rising British actor Tom Burke would be playing the lead role in the show.

Now more details about the series have been revealed and we can’t wait!

According to Deadline, the show will be a limited series that will air as three separate TV events. The first novel in the series, The Cuckoo’s Calling, will be a three hour event, while the subsequent two novels, The Silkworm and Career of Evil, will both be two hours.

As The Hollywood Reporter state, the first two books have been adapted by Ben Richards (The Tunnel), while Tom Edge (The Last Dragon Slayer) has adapted the most recent novel in the series. The Cuckoo’s Calling will be directed Michael Keillor. Rowling will act as executive producer for the series under her Brontë Film & TV production company and filming will begin this fall.

Okay, we’re SO excited about this! We totally loved Rowling’s adult novels; they’re basically just a gritty (non magical) version of the Harry Potter books, which were essentially just mystery novels.

What’s more, we’re glad that the show is coming to HBO, too. British TV doesn’t shy away from certain topics, and we think that a network like HBO is the perfect match for adult subject matter.

In the meantime, we have more J.K. Rowling to look forward to in the shape of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which hits theaters in less than a month! SO. EXCITING.
