Iza Calzado says doing rom-com is a dream come true
17 Feb – Iza Calzado recently admitted that it was a dream come true for her to finally be able to star in a romantic-comedy project through the new WeTV Philippines' seven-part series, "B&B: The Story of the Battle of Brody & Brandy".
As reported on ABS-CBN News, the actress, who spoke about playing one of the titular leads in the said show, stated that she never got to do light-hearted projects like this one as filmmakers and producers alike thought of her as a dramatic actress.
"You get boxed in. Pigeon-holed. And they can't see you out of that. I get cast for all these heavy roles and I understand why," she said.
Calzado stated that her role as Brandy is very different from Ellice - the character she plays in the revenge drama, "Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin" which is currently still running.
"Ellice is really angry. My head hurts, I have a migraine. So it was such a breath of fresh air to even do this for just a couple of days," she said, referring to her playing Brandy and her interaction with Brody (played by Ian Veneracion).
"I've always wanted to show also a part of me, the real me. Ian knows that very well. Playing that was just so natural for me, to be Brandy, and to have that banter with Brody."
The new rom-com follows the story of Brandy and Brody who are lovers turned business rivals.
Calzado stated that if there is one thing she learned from the experience was that what is meant for you will come at the perfect time.
"If it's not there yet, that means it's not yet time," she added.
