Iza Calzado is glad to be a part of "Culion"

23 Dec – Iza Calzado recently admitted that she is proud to be a part of the Metro Manila Film Festival entry, "Culion", saying that it was a story that needed to be told.

As reported on Push, the actress, who spoke about the film, which revolves around the leper colony in the Culion island, Palawan in the 1930s, stated that the subject matter and theme are something that will resonate with everybody.

"It's a story of unity, hope, love. That's a theme that's timeless," she said.

Describing the way the people with Hansen's Disease were treated during the '30s was similar to people with HIV in the '80s, Calzado stated that she loves the kind of stories that are more substantial.

"[I like the kind of story where] after you watch it you can think, or it could change your perspective in a positive way, in a better way," she said.

The upcoming movie, which will be released on Christmas Day, co-stars Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Meryll Soriano.
