Isetan’s Momiji Matsuri at NEX celebrates Japanese autumn with wagyu buns & shine muscat crepe till 29 Oct
The season of autumn is upon us! Or, at least, Japan. Ushering in this much-anticipated time of year is Isetan‘s Momiji Matsuri, a food fair that brings seasonal authentic Japanese delicacies to our very shores.
The event will take place from 17 to 29 Oct, giving Singaporeans just under 2 weeks to stop by NEX at Serangoon for an authentic Japanese autumn food binge.
Dip your toe tongue into the luscious cream filling of Fruits Cafe Tokio‘s Shine Muscat Crepe (S$10) and get a taste of the shine muscat’s superb sweetness as you chow down on the stretchy, soft crepe.
Wagyu lovers are in for a treat, as the meat virtuosos at Niku Master have ingeniously devised a fusion of the local favourite kong bak bao and wagyu, resulting in a perfected duo — Wagyu Bao (S$6).
Another unique creation at the Momiji Matsuri is the Nikumaki Kiritampo (S$5), grilled meat wrapped around a skewered rice centre that will leave you both bewildered and wanting more.
Hokkaido Yamato‘s Grilled Crabsticks (S$12.80++) come in a whole host of dizzying flavours, too many to finish in one visit to Isetan’s Momiji Matsuri fair. You have not just Mentaiko Mayo but a mix of that and Avocado. Alternatively, venture into cheesy territory with their Cheese and Mayo.
Itoshima Farm has supplied their strawberries to concoct Strawberry Shaved Ice (S$12) and Strawberry Milk (S$12). Each cup receives a plentiful serving of sliced strawberries that infuse their sweet, slightly acidic flavours into the ice/milk.
Monario has exported Kumamoto Prefecture’s iconic Kumamon mascot in the form of Kumamon Ningyoyaki (S$5). The aptly named sponge cakes are available with 4 different fillings — red bean paste, cream, chocolate and sweet potato.
Workaholics looking to take a breather, you’re in luck! House of Amber Nectar offers Japan’s very own brand of beer, Orion. Enjoy The Draft (S$8) at 360ml or the Dark Lager (S$8) which is an export-only variant (also brewed in Japan). Complimentary glassware is provided with purchases of 2 packs of 6 cans (S$21.90).
Cocktails like Lychee Hard Sparkling and Yuzu Hard Sparkling are priced at S$8.
Let’s not forget other favourites like Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki and even Ramen, all sold by participating vendors.
