Iron Man 4? Not Likely Says Robert Downey Jr

It looks as though Iron Man might not be back for another solo movie…

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, 50-year-old ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ star Robert Downey Jr revealed that he doesn’t think ‘Iron Man 4’ is going to happen.

“I don’t think that’s in the cards,” he said… although EW claims that Downey himself seems keen to play the mechanical superhero for as long as possible.

“In a way it’s Cap 3,” he said about ‘Civil War’, “But for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4.”

But what will become of Iron Man afterwards?

Don’t panic – there’s still plenty of life left in Robert Downey Jr’s superhero.

“And then it’s back to the thing we all recognize,” he said. “Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes.”

Of course, Iron Man will undoubtedly appear in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ parts One and Two. So at the very least, we’ve got another couple of films before Robert Downey Jr. hangs up his suit.

And that’s definitely a good thing for Marvel.

“Since kicking off the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise in 2008, the three Iron Man films have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide — and Downey’s character has become one of the most prominent Avengers,” explained EW.

Of course, the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War’ remain unclear… as does the result of the upcoming superhero clash.

Will Iron Man or Captain America come out on top?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But Robert Downey Jr. isn’t going anywhere just yet.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
