"Inuyasha" manga artist honoured by France

10 Apr – Popular manga artist Rumiko Takahashi has recently been awarded France's The Order of Arts and Letters.

The manga-ka, known for hit series like "Inuyasha" and "Ranma 1/2", was given the Knight Order during a ceremony held on 6 April at the official residence of the French ambassador to Japan in Tokyo.

Rumiko is the latest manga artist to receive the award aside from a few that include Akira Toriyama ("Dragon Ball"), Katsuhiro Otomo ("Akira"), and Go Nagai ("Mazinger Z")

Said Rumiko, "I am honoured to receive such a recognition. I am happy that the works I made on the theme of Japan's daily life are loved by the French. With this encouragement, I will continue to create with unremitting efforts in the future."

This is not the first time Rumiko was honoured for her work, as she also received a Medal with Purple Ribbon in Japan back in 2020 for her contribution of arts, and the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême in 2019, becoming the second woman and second Japanese to win the prize.
