Universal’s ‘Half To Death’ & ‘The Snowman’ Swap Slots; ‘Insidious: Chapter 4’ Moves Off 2017 Schedule – Update
UPDATED, 5:08 PM: Universal Pictures said today that its Working Title thriller The Snowman has swapped release dates with Blumhouse’s Half to Death. The horror pic now will open a week earlier, on October 13, and the Michael Fassbender thriller has moved to October 20. The Snowman now goes up against Warner Bros.’ Geostorm. Half to Death will face off with STX’s actioner The Foreigner, Open Road’s judicial biopic Marshall and Paramount’s drama Mother!
HALF TO DEATH will now be released on October 13, 2017, and THE SNOWMAN on October 20, 2017.
PREVIOUSLY, April 20: Insidious fans will have to wait until next year for the fourth installment of the horror franchise. Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures’ Insidious: Chapter 4 is moving from its original pre-Halloween date of October 20 to January 5, 2018. Universal will open Blumhouse’s other horror offering Half to Death on Oct. 20. The latter was directed by Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones).
By moving into January, Insidious: Chapter 4 drops into the spot of a previously announced Untitled Blumhouse horror film.
The fourth pic in the franchise, which has a weekend to itself for now, will be directed by series newcomer Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan) and welcomes back Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier, the parapsychologist who faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet: in her own family home.
The film is written by Insidious co-creator Leigh Whannell (Saw), who wrote the trilogy and directed Chapter 3, and produced by Insidious regulars Jason Blum (The Purge series, Get Out), Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) and co-creator James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7).
Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Charles Layton, Bailey Conway Anglewicz, Couper Samuelson and Whannell serve as executive producers. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions is financing Insidious, and domestic distribution will be handled by Universal Pictures. Sony will handle international distribution.
Meanwhile, Half to Death is a Blumhouse original about a college student (Jessica Rothe, La La Land) who relives the day of her murder in both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer’s identity.
