Inez Leong shares painful experience with mastitis

10 May - After giving birth to her second child back in March, Inez Leong recently revealed that she was in hospital again, this time for mastitis.

As reported on HK01, the model and wife of Tony Hung recently shared that she had just finished a month of confinement when she suddenly experienced a high fever that went on for several days.

"I was super tired and have no idea what happened. My fever reached 39.2 degrees early on Sunday... I couldn't figure it out until a friend who is also a mother said it was mastitis," she said.

Mastitis is a swelling in the breast most common among breastfeeding mothers. It happens when milk is trapped in the breast or due to blocked milk ducts.

Inez said that she didn't get to pump her milk a lot due to being busy, and had been experiencing some pain on her upper right chest. However, she said that she had ignored the pain instead.

While in hospital, the model said that the doctor found that her right chest was swollen red and that she was indeed having a high fever.

"He suggested that I stay in the hospital for three days and take antibiotics. I said I wanted to return home, so I had my blood drawn that day to see if the infection has entered the blood. I received some antibiotic injections and analgesic injections. I also had to use the needle to drain the pus," she shared.

She then reminded other new mothers to make sure to breastfeed as much as possible to avoid from experiencing similar situation.
