On a hazy June morning, I woke up in a state of semi-panic. I had three hours to make it to a hotel in downtown Manhattan from my apartment on the Upper East Side to interview my favorite celebrity of all time, and I didn’t have any makeup. Thanks to a recent KonMari-ing sweep of my bathroom cabinets and vanity—and the fact that, save for the occasional special event (like my own wedding) my routine is simply SPF and lip balm—I had thrown out the few makeup essentials I own and was down to two  tubes of ChapStick and an eyelash curler that I quite honestly have no idea how to use.

That’s how I found myself at the MAC counter of my neighborhood beauty store a few minutes later, desperate for the kind sales associate to help me select a bold—but not too bold—lip color that would give me that je ne sais quoi look. A quick swipe of the Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick in "See Sheer" on my pout and I was sold. A pinkish-red hue with just the right amount of well, luster, this lipstick looks lovely across different skin tones and makes your lips feel hydrated thanks to ingredients like jojoba, raspberry seed, coconut, and organic extra-virgin olive oils as well as shea butter and hyaluronic acid.

In addition to being a super flattering shade (I’ve since added the “Pigment of Your Imagination” color to my fold as well), I also loved how long-lasting the Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick was. The last thing I wanted to do when interviewing my adolescent icon was worry about lipstick melting across my face, and, I’m happy to report this formula lived up to the hype. Two hours, a diet coke with a straw, a mug of coffee, and a boxed water jug later, and there were no signs of smudging or loss of shine. Per MAC, the lipstick provides eight hours of color and six hours of shine, which is pretty darn impressive considering how lightweight it felt on my lips.

Other satisfied customers shared similar rave reviews, noting, “This formula and color is chef's kiss! You will not regret buying this product in any color. It's comfortable, shiny, and long-lasting.” Another buyer wrote, “It’s quite translucent but can be layered for a more opaque look. It can be as subtle as a gloss or layered and worn as a traditional lipstick. Who doesn’t love a two-in-one?”

If the “subtle but lovely” Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick that “lasts for hours” converted me, a decidedly non-makeup hound into a regular wearer, think how transformative a buy like this will be for the beauty buffs amongst us.
