Ikea unveils colourful Tesammans collectionIkea

Ikea's limited edition Tesammans collection is here to bring joy and colour to every corner of your home.

A collaboration between Ikea and Dutch design duo Raw Color, Tesammans features everyday items that inspire people to bring joy and character into their living space with colourful (and affordable) homeware.

A lavender carafe is the perfect pastel shade for spring, while a three-tier, cone-shaped lampshade will give a new dimension to your lighting, and a bold, ridged side table with a removeable lid for hidden storage is the perfect addition for small spaces.

'We have taken an experimental approach to exploring how colours can transform everyday objects, trying different combinations of shades and materials, playing with shapes that catch light in certain ways and by mixing bright, saturated tones with more muted ones,' says Daniera ter Haar of Raw Color.

House Beautiful were among a handful of press invited to see the collection unveiled during Paris Fashion Week at the IKEA+ event in 28 Rue de Lappe, Paris.

There's a palette of 15 shades applied to different objects.

'How do you we to 15 colours? That's quite a process. Some of them are our favourite colours used more often in our work. In the end we looked at what type of object it is. For the lampshades for example we decided to keep them in orange, yellow and red shades. But sometimes it's more about colour blocking, or different reactions on materials and how colours behave: if you put it on a metal it will look different to porcelain or textiles. And then once you have a certain colour, you define what type of pink should it be or what type of red should it be. It's a long process.

'Colour is never alone,' adds

There are combinations or tones that we have a personal preference with but we also try to surprise ourselves by combining things that are not most common for people, or even for us, so as with life, not everything should be set in stone, so we're encouraging people to try new things.

Graphic grids is something we utilise a lot in our work and I think it's almost the foundation of having two ways of stripes to really get a blend of colour. The graphic character, these grids and lines, you'll see them in the products.

A lot of interiors are often quite serious. It's very formal, white, black...so sometimes that lightness or playfulness is lost. Children's rooms are very rich in the sense of colour and sometimes I think why are we always so strict as adults when it comes to colour? So I think with this collection that's something we hope to bring to people's homes.

Ikea's limited edition Tesammans collection is here to bring joy and colour to every corner of your home.

In collaboration with Dutch design duo Raw Color, Tesammans (Swedish for 'together') is a range of colourful and affordable homeware. A lavender carafe is the perfect pastel shade for spring, a ridged side table with a removable lid offers hidden storage, while a three-tier lampshade will give a new dimension to your lighting.

House Beautiful were invited to see the collection first-hand, unveiled during Paris Fashion Week at the Ikea+ exhibition at Rue de Lappe in the Bastille district.

With Tesammans, designers Daniera ter Haar and Christoph Brach of Raw Color hope to make decorating fun and less 'serious'. The expressive collection of surprising colour combinations and playful pattern is certainly one that aligns with the feel-good dopamine decor trend.

'A lot of interiors are often quite serious. It's very formal, white, black...so sometimes that lightness or playfulness is lost,' Christoph tells us. 'Children's rooms are very rich in the sense of colour, and sometimes I think, why are we always so strict as adults when it comes to colour? So I think with this collection that's something we hope to bring to people's homes.'

It's also one of Ikea's most colourful collections to date with a palette of 15 shades. 'Colour is never alone,' says Christoph. 'There are combinations or tones that were a personal preference, but we also tried to surprise ourselves by combining things that are not common for most people, or even for us. So as with life, not everything should be set in stone, so we're encouraging people to try new things.'

Tesammans explores the transformative nature of colour. There are two cushion covers (£5) in this collection, and a knitted throw with graphic lines and solid colours that seemingly blend into a single hue from a distance, but up close, separate colours emerge.

The flatwoven rug (£199) is ideal for zoning, especially in an open-plan space. But one of our favourites is the side table (£50) with a blush pink lid and red ridged base: take off the lid and you have the perfect storage compartment.

Sturdy and sleek, this storage unit on wheels (£85) offers flexibility in the home. With a vibrant palette and graphic lines, this colourful unit would be ideal in a home office to store books and notepads.

'There are a lot of different grids, density and sizes here, and although it's a solid object, it creates a nice translucency,' says Christoph.

The lampshades in the collection are available in two sizes to either hang or place on a table. With a stacked design, there are three layers that transition from dark to lighter tones, creating different reflections as they catch light.

Again, seen here as a table lamp, it's perfect for a reading nook or as a bedside lamp. 'It should bring warmth to somebody's home,' says Christoph.

Please note, you need to buy the lamp base (£9) separately.
