With the recently announced exit of Robinsons Departmental Store at Jem due to take place at the end of August 2020, Ikea Singapore announced today (11 May) that it will launch its first ‘small-store’ concept in Southeast Asia at Jem Mall in 2021.

The smaller store concept will combine the full Ikea product range into one department, making it easy for customers to shop. This will be the Swedish furniture and home decor chain’s third store in Singapore.

The three-storey outlet will take up around 6,500 square metres in Jem, which is managed by property and infrastructure group Lendlease. There won’t be a playground or built-in warehouse but the popular Ikea Restaurant will be part of the layout.

“This store will bring us closer to millions of customers,” said Jaap Doornbos, the Ikea Retail Director for Singapore and Vietnam. “This will be the first time we are establishing a smaller Ikea store format as a tenant within a shopping centre in this region. There are only a few other Ikea stores like it in the world today! It will be easier than ever for people to just pop in for some inspiration, home furnishing products and, of course, our Swedish meatballs.”

“We see a bright future ahead for our store at Jem,” said Sebastian Hylving, Property & Expansion Director for Ikea Southeast Asia and Mexico, who recently signed a contract with Lendlease.

“Jem is one of four malls connected to the Jurong Gateway, linked to public transport. At Jem, Lendlease has curated a combination of great F&B offers with fashion, groceries and entertainment to create an everyday meeting place for the many people,” added Hylving. “It’s the perfect place to establish our new Ikea concept!”
