Ibis Styles Silom review: A colourful stay in the heart of Bangkok

Ibis Style Silom is a quirky and beautifully designed hotel that should be on your radar.

After working so hard for so long after the pandemic, we're definitely down to punctuate the gloom and doom of daily life with weekend Bangkok trips!

And I know what is on the minds of us savvy travellers who want a money-stretching vacation in Bangkok: good value stays, eats, massages, activities and more.

During my last Bangkok trip, I stayed at Ibis Style Silom, located in the bustling Silom district and right smack middle of all the action. It is close to public transportation and iconic attractions like Patpong Night Market and Lumpini Park, with plenty of malls, clubs and bars nearby, making it a perfect base for exploring the vibrant city. Transport around the city is accessible, with the Sala Daeng BTS station and the Silom MRT station within easy reach of the hotel.

At less than S$100 a night, the hotel exceeded my expectations and more for a quiet yet vibrant stay in Bangkok, and it's prime to be THE place I always go back to for short weekend Bangkok trips that wouldn't burden the wallet.

Let's take a look.

First Impression of Ibis Style Silom

Ibis Style Silom espouses on its website that visitors can expect "Groovy tunes, vibrant colours, and artwork inspired by Thai folklore set the tone for an out-of-this-world experience, blending comfort and original design to make every other hotel feel … ordinary"—and it's rare that I felt like a hotel actually did what it marketed itself as, and at such a great price point, no less.

When you step into the hotel, you cannot miss the staircases and funky Mondrian-esque panels lining the walls. You can already tell that it's a place guests can comfortably lounge at. The reception is small, but the service is efficient, and I was quickly given my card to check into the room upon arrival.

There are 264 rooms featuring five room categories, and even family suites that come with two connecting rooms and a "private" corridor.

So much personality in the hotel decor

The eclectic and whimsical décor pervading the premises imparts an inimitable charm, offering a plethora of Instagram-worthy settings at every turn. Inspired by Piet Mondrian's iconic style, the artistic embellishments infuse each space with vitality and character, ensuring an immersive visual experience for guests.

Within the confines of the rooms, a harmonious blend of comfort and modernity awaits. The comfortable bedding ensures a restful sojourn. The only downside is that amenities like shampoo and body wash were not provided, though I was told it could be requested.

Small as it is, the sparrow has all the vital organs

While the hotel may not boast an extensive range of amenities, nor is it a luxury brand – it still offers all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Move upwards from the lobby towards the fitness centre and swimming pool at the top level, and you get yourself a welcoming space to work out, swim or lounge.

The in-house dining venue offers a modest offering of local and international fare, albeit the breakfast buffet may not elicit exuberant accolades. Nevertheless, with Bangkok's gastronomic scene beckoning just beyond the hotel's threshold, the culinary offerings remain but a supplementary facet of the overall experience.

The hotel's cafe also serves as a pleasant spot to grab a quick bite or drink.

The staff at Ibis Styles Silom deserves special mention. From check-in to check-out, the service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. The hotel staff went out of their way to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay.

Ibis Styles Silom is a solid choice for those seeking a centrally located and comfortable hotel in Bangkok. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of a luxury property, it more than makes up for it with its friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere.

Considering the prime location and the overall quality of service, I found the Ibis Styles Silom to be of good value, and would highly recommend it to travellers looking for a convenient and affordable accommodation option in the heart of Bangkok.

The Standard room (18sqm) starts from S$92++.
