Hunter, Myla and Dominic among the UK's most popular baby names of 2019 so far

What is it about baby names that has us all so fascinated?

Whether you’re actually about to join the parenting party so have to pick a name imminently, or you just like staying in the know so you can bag a baby name for the future, who doesn’t like a sneaky peak at the most popular baby names in the UK so far?

And 2019 has presented a couple of surprises.

Though there’s no shift at the top, with Olivia and Oliver still reigning supreme, parenting site Bounty has revealed a few baby naming trends that British parents have been following in 2019, starting with ‘Peaky Blinders’.

Yep mums and dads-to-be have been seeking inspo from the hit BBC show and naming their children after tiny gangsters.

We’ve already seen that our current TV must-watches can influence the names on the school register, but baby Theons and Baby Vionelles could well be making way for baby Tommys, as ‘Peaky Blinders’ rivals ‘Game of Thrones’ in the battle of the baby monikers.

Fellow Blinders names Arthur and Alfie are both riding strong in the chart. While Ada and Esme are proving popular for baby girls.

Other high climbing names for girls include Myla which has scooched up 39 places to storm into the top 100 at 91. While its more popularly spelt alternative, Mila, climbed 23 places.

And there are some previously popular names for baby girls that have been on the wane of late. No matter how you spell it, Darcie/Darcy/Darcey has seen its popular bubble burst this year with each dropping down 11, 9 and 11 places respectively.

Traditional girls names also seem to be on the decline with Charlotte falling five places and Isabelle dropping seven.

And the once riding high Ruby is only just clinging on to being in the top 30 having dropped eight places this year.

Some of the newly chosen boys’ names this year include Reuben, Roman, Grayson and Dominic, all of which have climbed the ranks over the past year.

Ezra, potentially inspired by singer George Ezra has spiked to position 65, up 23 places, but the biggest rise this year is for Hunter up 37 places and now breaking into the top 30 most popular names for boys.
