Huang Xiaoming's personal life overshadows movie, "The Cover-Up"

27 Nov - Despite Huang Xiaoming's attempt to appease netizens over oversaturated gossips regarding his relationship with Ye Ke, many believed that it has now affected his new movie.

As reported on Epoch Times, the film, "The Cover-Up" (aka "The Wig") has been quietly removed from theatres after 10 days of release, after it made only RMB 4.1 million at the box office.

This was less than the original forecast of RMB 6 million, and a far cry from its RMB 100 million budget.

Last week, Huang made headlines for bowing to the audience at a promotional event in an attempt to apologise for the many controversies about his new girlfriend being reported by the media and gossip sites.

Sources also claimed that Huang had expressed concern that the controversies about Ye Ke would affect the new film.

Despite many speculating that his new romance affected the movie, some are saying that many factors played a part in the movie's lacklustre response, with the Chinese film industry itself having been struggling this year due to low cinema attendance among the youth demographic.
