Hu Ling marks China stars' return to Golden Horse Awards
23 Nov - Hu Ling became the first Chinese actress to grace the Golden Horse Awards, five years after China banned its actors from participating in the awards.
As reported on Epoch Times, the actress, who is nominated in the Best Actress category for her performance in the independent movie, "Carp Leaping Over Dragon's Gate", was recently seen arriving in Taiwan alongside director Yan Xiaolin.
Asked about her nomination, Hu Ling stated that she was very surprised to find out that she was shortlisted, as she didn't know that the director has submitted her name.
On the other hand, director Yan stated that he was very surprised when he met Hu Ling for the first time, as she was no different from any other people he saw in Beijing.
"She doesn't have the demeanour of an actress. It fits the character very well. But when she's on camera, she shone instantly. This is what I want," he said.
Hu Ling will be competing alongside Lu Hsiao-fen, Cheung Suet-ying, and Jennifer Yu, the latter nominated for "In Broad Daylight".
It is noted that the China State Film Administration announced in 2019 that it has banned mainland Chinese films and personnel from participating in the 56th Golden Horse Awards following a speech made by the 55th Golden Horse winner criticising the CCP government.
