Hong Kong viewers slam TVB for "Journey to the West"
2 May – After only two episodes of the 2011 mainland instalment of "Journey to the West", TVB has been flooded with criticisms from viewers who wanted the series to be cancelled and replaced with another show.
According to Apple Daily, Hong Kong viewers recently slammed the mainland drama series, which TVB bought at the hefty price of HKD 4 million dollars (USD 515,908), citing various loopholes in the drama as well as horrendous CGI effects.
Some Netizens stated that the make-up donned on the actors Wu Yue, Feng Shaofeng and Ady An as Sun Wukong, Erlang Shen and Bai Gujing, respectively, were extremely bad, and that even Wukong's hands seemed fake.
In addition to that, Wu Yue was criticised of not being a good choice to play the spirited character, especially since Dicky Cheung's hit 1996 version is still fresh in everybody's mind. Several viewers even slammed the actor for making the character seemed unintelligent and lacking any personality.
Aside from the costumes and acting, viewers also felt that the Cantonese dubbing was so bad that one person commented, "Listening to the dubbing makes me want to mute the sound."
Netizens said that they are determined to continue sending complaints so as to deter TVB's plans of acquiring more mainland dramas.
