Hong Kong picks "Twilight of the Warriors" for Oscar's Best International Film
23 Sep - Hong Kong has picked its representative movie for the upcoming Academy Awards' Best International Feature Film.
As reported on Deadline, the Federation of Motion Picture Producers of Hong Kong announced recently that they have selected Soi Cheang's box office hit, "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In" to represent Hong Kong after deliberating on several contenders.
The movie, which screened out of competition at Cannes Festival in May, is based on the Chinese comic, "City of Darkness", and boasted a star-studded cast that include Raymond Lam, Louis Koo, Richie Jen, Terrance Lau, and Philip Ng.
The movie is currently the second highest grossing Hong Kong movie domestically, earning HKD 99 million at the box office.
It is noted that Hong Kong last entered the top five in the 2020/2021 edition of the Oscars, betting on Derek Tsang's "Better Days". However, the accolade went to Denmark's "Another Round", directed by Thomas Vinterberg.
Meanwhile, China has yet to select a movie to be competing in the said category, while Taiwan is sending Hsia Ya-Chuan's "Old Fox".
