Hong Kong Cinema Day offers cheap ticket prices

18 Apr – After designating 21 April as Hong Kong Cinema Day 2024, the Hong Kong Theatres Association announced that they are offering a uniform price for all tickets at HKD 30 (approx. USD 3.80).

This include premium venues where the prices are usually over HKD 200 and up.

The pricing is offered in all 63 cinemas across Hong Kong, including Broadway, MCL, Emperor Cinemas, Cinema City, Newport Circuit, Golden Harvest, Golden Scene; with tickets already available for purchasing from noon of 17 April until the day itself.

Cinemagoers will be able to enjoy movies in any format currently screened, with 70 movies projected to be screened during the event.

"Cinema Day" was started last year as part of "Happy Hong Kong" event, aimed to encourage the public to return to the theatres as a daily entertainment.

“The Contestant,” directed by Clair Titley, explores the story behind the late 1990s hit reality TV show from Japan, “A Life in Prizes,” in which a comedian nicknamed Nasubi is forced to survive on whatever he can redeem from mail-in coupons, as he is denied contact with the outside world.
